The Tutelary - From the Artifacts and Envoys Oracle

Guardianship. Illumination. Warding. The oil lamp radiates light, casting away darkness and shadow. The scorpion’s tail creates a similar boundary, acting as a warning against potential threats. The Tutelary, a wise and strict figure, strikes light against gloom, iniquity, and deception.

A tutor is something many of us are familiar with, and this word comes from tutelary, defined as a guardian, protector, or patron of a person, place, or thing (in our common use, a guardian who oversees knowledge or education bestowed on a student). But there are all kinds of protectors we might need to call on and ways that we can be guides for others. This card represents recognizing what is most important to keep safe from outside influence and what boundaries need to be reinforced.

The Artifacts & Envoys Oracle features iconic tools, artifacts, and objects integral to our development and survival as humans, along with carefully selected animal messengers. Together these images create an illustrated archetype: facets of ourselves and of those around us. The Artifacts & Envoys deck is designed to be a companion to the Forager's Daughter Tarot, mirroring our connection to nature while highlighting the innovation and ingenuity inherent to history.
